District Web Page, Email List, and Signage Offer Construction Updates to Trail Users

Secondary Treatment Plant Upgrade and Recycled Water
Expansion Project will be Underway for Three Years

San Rafael, CA – Major construction activity is now underway at the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District, as crews work on the $62 million Secondary Treatment Plant Upgrade and Recycled Water Expansion Project.

Knowing that many people enjoy visiting the District’s reclamation ponds and trails for birding, wildlife watching, and great views, the District is working to ensure its visitors are aware of the construction and its impacts. During this three-year construction period there will be necessary, temporary closures of the access road and the trailhead parking area at the reclamation ponds.

To inform the community, the District has set up a construction web page and a new construction email list. These tools will help keep visitors up-to-date on construction activities and the periodic roadway and trail closures affecting access to the reclamation ponds.

The new web page is located at www.lgvsd.org/construction. On that page, community members can easily sign up for periodic email updates. In addition to the web page and email notifications, a construction/trail impact flyer has been developed to be handed out to trail users. New construction signage has been installed in several locations on Smith Ranch Road, and on the trail that starts in McInnis Park, to alert visitors of construction activities and possible impacts to use of the trails.

Community members are encouraged to check the web page before visiting to make sure the access road and trailhead are open and available. When on the property, visitors are urged to exercise extra caution, watch for construction equipment, trucks, lane changes, and road closures.

The Secondary Treatment Plant Upgrade and Recycled Water Expansion Project is a three-year, $62 million construction project. An upgraded treatment plant and expanded recycled water facility will better serve District customers, help protect the environment, meet increasingly-stringent regulatory requirements, and ensure that the District’s facilities continue providing exceptional service and high-quality technical processes, for decades to come.

The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary Sewer District 32,000 customers in the northern San Rafael area and manages approximately 105 miles of sewage collection pipelines. In addition to the wastewater treatment plant, the District is also involved in producing recycled water, solar power generation, garbage collection, and a multi-faceted reclamation project which includes a freshwater marsh, irrigated pastures, storage ponds, and a saltwater marsh which provides habitat for wildlife.
