Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District Schedules Emergency Repair Night Work

San Rafael (January 4, 2013) — The Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District will be performing emergency repairs at its Descanso sewage pump station during the late night and early morning hours of January 8-9 in the Santa Venetia neighborhood. The emergency work is needed to repair sewer force main pipe that ruptured in October, 2012 and resulted in a sewage spill.

A temporary repair was performed at the time, while the District developed an emergency repair project. The construction work will take place between 11:30 p.m. on January 8 and, barring unforeseen circumstances, will be completed by 8:30 a.m. on January 9. Work will include the operation of heavy equipment and lighting, which may disturb residents. Heavy rainfall could delay the work.

The pump station is located adjacent to Pueblo Park, which can be accessed from Hacienda Way and Descanso Way. Construction of a new pipeline on Hacienda Way near the park is already under way.

The night work is necessary because installation of the new pipe requires that the pump stations be shut down and this needs to be done when a minimal amount of sewage is entering the pump stations.

The District has notified nearby residents with flyers, and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. The repairs will result in a more reliable system.
